Last updated 2026-11-02. Applies to slotgauge.com, the installed web app, and the SlotGauge Android app and widgets.
SlotGauge tells you whether a fish is a keeper under your state's current regulations and shows tide predictions for your area. We built it to need as little of your data as possible, and we do not sell or share personal data with advertisers.
If you allow it, your device's approximate location is used to pick the state whose regulations apply and the nearest NOAA tide station. Coordinates are sent to our server to look up the state (via the U.S. Census geocoder), the nearest tide stations and your local forecast; those lookups do not keep them. The one place SlotGauge stores a location is the catch log below, and only for catches you log with “Use my location for conditions” ticked. The Android widgets use the phone's last known location on the device for the same purpose. You can decline location access and choose a state or tide station by hand.
"Say it" uses your browser's built-in speech recognition to turn your words into text. Audio is handled by your browser or phone's speech service (for example Google's on Android) under that provider's policy; SlotGauge only receives the resulting text, which is not stored on our servers. The microphone turns off automatically after a few seconds of silence.
"Snap it" sends the photo you choose to our server, where an AI model (Google Vertex AI or Anthropic Claude) identifies the species. If you are not signed in, the photo is discarded after identification. If you sign in and save a catch, the photo and the identification are stored in your gallery until you delete them.
If you log a catch, SlotGauge stores what you entered — species, length, weight, the spot name and your notes — with the date and time. If you leave “Use my location for conditions” ticked, it also stores the coordinates of that catch and uses them once to record the tide stage, moon phase, solunar window and weather at that moment. The coordinates stay on the record so Best Windows can compare where and when you catch fish. Untick that box and the catch is saved without any location. Deleting a catch deletes its location and conditions with it, and deleting your account removes the whole log.
Sign-in is optional and only needed for the gallery. It uses Google sign-in through Firebase Authentication; we store your Google account ID, display name and email so your catches stay yours. Sign out at any time from the account menu. To delete your account and everything tied to it, follow the steps on Delete your account.
Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers; we store only your Stripe customer ID, subscription status and renewal date so Pro can be unlocked on your account. Purchases through Google Play are handled by Google under its policies.
The app keeps your last state, tide station, recent checks and a copy of the regulations in your browser's local storage so it works offline. Nothing in it is sent to us except as described above.
Like any website, our hosting provider (Google Cloud Run) records standard request logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security and debugging; they are retained for a short period and not used for profiling.
No advertising, no ad tracking, no analytics SDKs, no selling or renting of data, no data brokers. Regulation and tide data come from public government sources (state wildlife agencies and NOAA) and involve none of your data.
SlotGauge is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
You can use SlotGauge without location, microphone, camera or an account. Permissions can be changed any time in your browser or phone settings. To delete a saved gallery or account, or for any question, email greg.fullwood@gmail.com.
We will update this page when the policy changes and note the date at the top.
