Notes
A 2026-10-31 check against the official source found a discrepancy in this species' zones. Read the official wording before keeping the fish: https://coastalgadnr.org/limits
The printed 2026 guide says 5 fish, 14–23 in; the Board of Natural Resources considered 3 fish, 15–24 in on Aug 25, 2026. SlotGauge applies the stricter overlap until CoastalGaDNR.org/RedDrum confirms. Rod & reel only.
“Red drum (Channel bass, Spottail bass, Redfish)**B | All year | 5 | 14 TL (23 TL maximum) — B: At the time of this guide’s publication, the Board of Natural Resources was considering regulation changes for Red Drum (proposal: 3 fish, 15–24 in TL; Board meeting Aug. 25, 2026).”
The red drum, also known as redfish, channel bass, puppy drum, spottail bass, or simply red, is a game fish found in the Atlantic Ocean from Massachusetts to Florida and in the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to northern Mexico. It is the only species in the genus Sciaenops.
